Anyone watching Game of Thrones? That last episode was awesome! I think GoT is my favorite TV series of all time, hopefully the quality holds up and they can see it through to the finish.
I’ve started reading the books. I’m about half way through the first book. I haven’t decided yet, if I will continue reading once I catch up to the TV show. I think I will stop reading, so I can be more surprised during the show.
When the Harry Potter movies came out, I hadn’t read any of the books. However, I loved the movies so much, I couldn’t wait for the next movie, so after seeing “Harry Potter: Prisoner”, I started reading the books. Which was great, cause I could read all of them and not have to wait, but the movies could not live up to the books. So I think I enjoyed the movies less then I would have if I hadn’t read the books. So I will stay just behind the GoT shows.
Trust me when I say that although the tv series is awesome (the casting director alone should receive sainthood), the GoT books are MUCH more fleshed out (just like the Harry Potter series). I’ve read them at least once, and listened to them on audiobook at least three times each. In this case, reading the books before the tv series allows you to see the changes HBO makes(and some of them are either unnecessary, completely tangential, or kind of a “what the hell were they thinking” moment). It’s six of one, half dozen of the other. If you were disappointed during the Harry Potter book/movie situation, then I would recommend reading the GoT books AFTER you see the tv show. ANd, with this newest season being the second half of the third book, you’ll have to wait twice as long. But it IS awesome!!!!
I think that is my plan, is to read the books right behind the TV show timeline. I am only half way through the first book now, though I am sure I will catch up with the show pretty quickly…maybe I will read slower then usual 🙂
It drives me nuts that Martin has finished the series yet and maybe the show will bet Martin to the finish line. That could be a good thing though, we get 2 possibly different endings. Though I read that Martin told the GoT TV people his planned ending already, so at least they should be headed in the right direction should he not finish in time.
love love love love GoT!!!!
He told them part of the current ending, he said that could change. But yeah, I wish he’d get the next two (possibly more) books out soon. I’m getting close to the end of Dance with Dragons and I’ve really been enjoying the books even more than the show, much more flushed out. But I find I’m still able to enjoy the show.
My mother’s addicted to the show as well.
